Portfolio #5: Interesting Shapes and Forms

Organic Shapes

This is a good example of organic shape because the natural outline of the shadow varies in the type of line it is, such as straight and curved. The shape of the shadow is natural, meaning it is organic. The shadow shows no depth, making it 2-dimensional.

This is a good example of organic shape because the leaves outlines and lines on the leaves are curved and create different shapes that are all organic on the leaves that cannot be measured. The leaves are flat and 2-dimensional, as shown by the leaves at the top of the photo.

Geometric Shapes

This is a good example of geometric shape because the straight lines form a triangle which is geometric because it can be measured using algebra. The lines separating the colours inside the triangle form different sized trapezoids. The triangle gives off no depth, making it 2-dimensional.

This is a good example of geometric shape because the circles are all geometric and can be measured using algebra. The circles give off no depth, making them 2-dimensional.

Organic Forms

This is a good example of organic form because the shape of the pinch pot is curved, and the cracks and lines on the pot are all natural, making it organic. The pinch pot gives off a shadow, and has dimensions, making it 3-dimensional.

This is a good example of organic form because the shape of the pine needles is naturally curved and wavy, making it organic. The pine needles have dimensions and give off depth, making them 3-dimensional.

Geometric Forms

This is a good example of geometric form because from the angle of the photo, you can see how the windows are rectangular, the windows are paneled by more rectangles, and the the bricks are also rectangular. All the shapes in this photo are geometric shapes. You can see the window panels are 3-dimensional, because they give off a shadow on the window. You can also see how the bricks are 3-dimensional you can see the depth in between the gaps of the bricks.

This is a good example of geometric form because both the can and the lid are cylindrical, meaning they are geometric. Some of the design is also geometric, having circles on it. The can and lid have depth and give off shadows, meaning they are 3-dimensional.

Photos of Form That I Found Interesting

I found this photo interesting because it shows both organic shape+form and geometric form. The piece of leather is circular, meaning it is geometric, and it gives off depth and you can see a shadow, making it 3-dimensional. The paintings are of natural shapes, making them organic. The paintings show no depth, making them 2-dimensional. This beads are also put into a natural shape, making them organic. The beads have depth and give off a shadow, making them 3-dimensional.

I found this photo interesting because the leaf is 2-dimensional, but also 3-dimensional at the base. The leaf is natural, making it organic. The rocks in the cement are organic forms, and show depth in and texture.
